Farmers markets, flea markets, designer shopping, high street brands, indie stores… You’ll find it all in Lisbon, enough to keep any shopaholic happy for quite some time including air-conditioned shopping malls – A glorious escape in the height of Summer!

Here are the spots that made our list:

 

Mercado de Campo de Ourique – One of the oldest markets in Lisbon, this indoor marketplace is buzzing with activity and has a mixture of fresh produce stalls, plus food courts and drinks stands which will keep foodies and wine, beer, and gin connoisseurs busy for quite some time!

Feira da Ladra – A big bustling outdoor street market that takes place on Tuesdays and Saturdays selling clothes, toys, household goods, antiques, souvenirs, and bric a brac. Best to arrive early, when the sun rises if you want to be there to get the best items with the locals and allow a good couple of hours to see everything. Ignore the junk as there are true gems to be found in between!

Mercado Da Ribeira – A historic covered food market selling fresh produce including fruit and vegetables, seafood, meat, and cheeses. An array of food stands and gourmet restaurants run by top national and international chefs can also be found – The perfect place for any foodie to stop for lunch.

Mercado de Benfica – This indoor market is open 6 days a week and sells fresh and frozen fish, fruit and veg, meat, cheese, pastries, and more. It also has stalls selling clothing, flowers, household goods, jewelry and bric a brac. It’s more authentic, less high-end and touristic than some of the larger markets.

Mercado de Arroios – A traditional indoor local marketplace with a good vibe selling fresh produce with a selection of food courts around the edge. The friendly traders sell fruit and veg, cheeses, meats, fish and more. The venue benefits from a cash machine on site!

Alvalade North Market – An indoor fresh produce market that’s traditional and still visited daily by locals who purchase fruit and vegetables, fish, meat, and more. Clothes, household goods and other bric a brac can also be purchased and there’s a kids playground too.

Market January 31 – A typical local indoor produce market with a good selection of stalls selling fruit and veg, cheese, meat, fish that’s all as fresh as can be and beautifully displayed. Upstairs you’ll find a selection of restaurants selling some cheap and tasty eats.

LxMarket – A lively flea market is held down the street on Sunday’s. Stalls sell clothing, jewelry, arts and crafts and so much more plus there’s live music, and lots of delicious street food to try. The best part is it doesn’t start until 11am so there’s no need to get out of bed early and it carries on until the evening!
