Tel Aviv’s Best Vegan & Vegetarian Restaurants

Tel Aviv is one of the best cities in the world for non-meat eaters as it has hundreds of dedicated vegan and vegetarian restaurants serving up an array of delicious dishes using the freshest of produce that goes far beyond the usual falafel with hummus.

Here are the spots that made our list:

Zakaim: Here you’ll enjoy large portion sizes, high-quality ingredients, and a variety of dishes, including black lentil pate, homemade potatoes, mushrooms, and hand-cut fries. Each dish is presented in a way that feels like an experience, not just a meal.

Anastasia: To get the most out the range of tastes and textures on Anastasia’s creative, well-presented menu, it’s recommended that you share your experience with others. Even if you’re not vegan, this is a great place to try some dishes that you won’t believe have absolutely no meat or animal products.

Goodness: This is a cozy restaurant. The menu is diverse – there are even some 100% vegan desserts. This is not the place to go when you’re on a diet, as it demonstrates that vegans can have junk food, too. You’re here to have a good time and leave with a full belly.

416 – Four One Six: You’ll be served by friendly staff in a venue that presents its own take on vegan food. All dishes are high quality, so expect the prices to be a little steep. 416 is more than just a vegan restaurant; you will also be coming for the lively atmosphere.

Bana: It’s a whole family experience where you can appreciate innovative food that promotes a healthy, plant-based diet. Expect fresh, nutritious ingredients in the dishes you try here.

Herzog: You will be greeted by friendly staff and then treated to a bowl of soup on the house before you’ve even seen the menu. Herzog offers a different special dish each day, each a hearty and delicious vegan option. One of the best things about this place is the size of the portions; you will never leave hungry.

Hummus Abu Dubi, Tel Aviv: Trying the hummus here will make you question the hummus you’ve tried anywhere else; it has an impressive depth of flavor and a creamy texture. Another special of theirs is the falafel, which goes well with the many varieties of hummus they sell. Prices are quite good for what you get ‒ and the portion sizes, even better.

Phi: Perfect for vegans who love alcoholic drinks. For after-dinner, Phi has a unique mix of cocktails that go down nicely with the techno and deep house music. Overall, this place has a very relaxed vibe and is designed to welcome the younger crowds.

Xoho: The vegan menu at Xoho is a bit more creative than what you can normally find in Tel Aviv. Eating here is a unique experience: delicious food served in an old building filled with wooden furniture. This is not a place for fine dining, but rather more like a relaxed cafe.

Caffe Kaymak: On the outside, this place just seems like a hole in the wall, but when you enter, you will be surprised by the refined and special kosher food served in a relaxed, warm, and generally hip atmosphere. The prices are quite cheap and, on top of the quick, delicious and simple vegan food, dining here also has the potential to turn into a friendly local experience.

Meshek Barzilay: A vegan restaurant suitable for every time of day, Meshek Barzilay has a menu for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. The all-organic food served here is some of the freshest you can find. If you haven’t had enough once you’ve finished eating here, they also run a deli next door, which offers lots of great, vegan-friendly food like stews, patties, salads, pastries, vegan cheese, and organic vegetables.

The Green Cat: This vegan restaurant is worth visiting, even if you’re not vegetarian or vegan. Perhaps the most popular dish they serve is the vegan pizza, a delicious thin crust topped with vegetables and cashew cheese.

HaMitbachon: This restaurant provides a cozy setting for some good “home cooking.” With great vibes and a location right near the Carmel market, HaMitbachon is a good stop off in the middle of your day exploring. Please note that this restaurant is not vegan-only, so there will be some meat dishes on the menu.

Nanuchka: Tasty vegan food and friendly staff to top it off. The food is an interesting mix of authentic and unique served in generous portions, which means that no one leaves Nanuchka with an empty stomach. On selected nights, starting at midnight, there’s a DJ at the bar serving some great electronic music right from the ‘40s to present day.

Oasis: Although it’s a bit pricier than other restaurants, the food is well worth it. Oasis is not purely a vegan restaurant, but it still competes with the ones that are. The food here is influenced by dishes from all over the world that come together to create artistic, creative, and complex meals.
